Enchanted

Can fairytales happen in real life? Does happily-ever-after exist? What happens if a fairy tale character met into today's world? That's pretty much what this movie is about.

A fairytale's princess is sent by an evil witch (Susan Sarandon) to the real world, and has to learn to survive. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) starts to change her view about love and life after meeting a handsome lawyer called Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Meanwhile her prince charming, Edward (James Marsden) who she was about to marry back in the fairytale land, comes to the real life looking for her.

The thing that I liked about this movie was the colision between the fairytales' land and the real actual world, and the yuxtaposition that is made between them. Also the fact that the movie mixes animated and human characters, that is quite interesting. For some this movie could be a little pesimist about the reality, but it also shows some hope, that there are couples who can live happily ever after, that love is enough to make that happen. Yes, I think this movie believes in love. I, myself, think quite possitive about love, and I do believe that there's an special someone for everybody and that with love, happiness can be achieved, and it can last forever. I don't believe in divorces, I believe that true love is forever. And that's kind of the message that the movie tries to send. I also liked the fact that is a classic Disney movie! that's lovely to watch, Disney back to its roots. It was nice to finally see a Disney movie that wasn't computer animated, the beginning was almost a forgotten memory of the old fashion animation that I miss so much. Enchanted is a clever twist on the classic fairy tale.

Otherwise, it's just a kid's story, but both, parents and children can enjoy it. It's a cute movie to spend an afternoon with your kids. They will enjoy it, the fathers won't hate it, and the mothers can contemplate and delight themselves with hottie, Patrick Dempsey (Gosh, he's sooo hot!)

Now, my picks: Well, I actually loved that Atonement won Best Picture, haven't seen it yet, but I read the book and loved it, plus I love Keira Knightley and Joe Wright is one of my favourite directors. That's why I was disappointed when he didn't win Best Director, I also would have agreed if Tim Burton or Ridley Scott won. Then again, for Best Actor my call was either James McAvoy, Viggo Mortensen or George Clooney. Obviously my pick for Best Actress was Keira, I never would have thought of Julie Christie, but maybe Cate Blanchett or Angelina Jolie, maybe even Jodie Foster, for God's Sake! My least favourite won! For Best Comedy I'm absolutely happy that Sweeney Todd won, and of course, that Johnny won for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. I love him!!!!! ahahaa. Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, I never would have thought that my pick, Marion Cotillard, would win! I'm thrilled, I've seen La Vie En Rose, and apart from being one of the best films from 2007, it has the best performance, it was like I was watching Edith Piaf herself, omg, you can't even begin to imagine how much I cried with that movie. That's why I'm kind of disappointed that that was the only nomination the movie got. For Best Supporting Actor, I would have prefered Philip Seymour Hoffman. For Best Supporting Actress, it was a more diffucult call. I mean, my fave, of course, was Cate Blanchett, but I also liked Julia Roberts and Saoirse Ronan, I think that girl really deserved it. In the rest of the categories I don't have much of an opinion, only that I liked that David Duchovny won, I would have liked House or The Tudors and either Hugh Laurie or Jonathan Rhys Meyers for Best Actor.

August Rush

The film is about a young musical prodigy, Evan Taylor, aka August Rush (Freddie Highmore) who uses his gift as a clue to finding his birth parents: an Irish guitar player who performs in a band called Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and a brilliant cellist called Lyla Novacek (Keri Russell). They both met one night and fell in love imideatly, but soon they were torn apart. The kid ends up performing in the streets with a mysterious stranger who calls himself "Wizard" (Robin Williams).
What I loved the most about this film were the fairy tale elements that makes it suitable for children, even though they might not understand the very core of the story. It is incredibly moving - to tears - and tells a lovely story with excellent performances and images. It is visually beautiful, impecably edited, both sounds and images. You can really see (and hear) through the characters' perspective, which makes it even more emotional. It is amazingly casted, every actor plays its character beautifully, but, for me, Freddie Highmore was the biggest breakthrough, even though we had already seen him in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Finding Neverland, in this film, you really take notice of him. Rhys Meyers's performance it's outstanding, mostly because we had never seen him in a sweet, loving character like Louis Connelly. Same with Robin Williams, who's known for characters more lovable and here we see a darker performance (still he manages to be loved by the spectators). Keri Russell is adorable and has such good chemistry with Rhys Meyers. Bottomline, this is trully a symphony of a film. You'll enjoy it, your children will enjoy it, and you will walk out of the theater knowing that, for once, your ticket money was well spent.

American Gangster

The film is about a drug dealer named Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) who comes from a poor family but he becomes extremely wealthy selling pure heroine he buys from South East Asia. His product becomes very famous and the best in the whole Manhattan, he also finds a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. Along comes this honest policeman named Richie Roberts (Russel Crowe), who's famous for finding a million dollars and returning them, and starts searching for big drug dealers. To achieve that he heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government.
With good performances in general, Crowe really stands out and remembers us why we loved him. The film surpriced me because it showed the huuuuge mafia that's underneath the drug bussiness, it has nice switches in the end but I really guessed most of them, nevertheless I found it quite surpricing and catchy. What I didn't like was the violence. There were too many up close shoots of deaths and shootings that were quite disturbing, and other scenes of physical violence that I found uncomfortable. Overall, I enjoyed the film and I managed to digest those violent scenes because of the quality of the entire film. Which I found more suprising was the fact that it was based in a true story! That really wowed me, the film really manages to send a message and inform the young spectators like me. It speaks up.
